The Right Time, The Right Place

For decades, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine has set the world’s highest standards for veterinary medical innovation, research excellence and patient-centered care. Today, our renowned clinicians, researchers and educators continue to define the future of their field.

The UC Veterinary Medical Center in San Diego has operated as a satellite facility of the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for more than 20 years, following the state’s allocation of funds to support the expansion of our mission in Southern California. This center of excellence now thrives in collaboration with many San Diego partner institutions—yet its potential to serve patient families is far greater than current space allows. Demand for animal-health services in the region has already outpaced supply and is predicted to grow steadily over the coming years.

Unparalleled Care

When it opens, the new Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center Southern California will be seven times larger than our existing facility, and will include a pharmacy as well as dedicated suites for radiography, cardiology, surgery, and nephrology and urology. Within the first five years, we envision adding a community clinic and more specialty services, including emergency and critical care.

While the hospital will focus on providing life-changing treatment for cats, dogs and other beloved companion animals, it will also provide diagnostic and imaging support to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance veterinarians and offer greater capacity for specialty animal care through partnerships with local veterinarians.

This state-of-the-art space will not only extend care of the highest quality to more clients—it will take our research and clinical collaborations to the next level, in California and beyond.
