Janice K. Hobbs and her kitty

Visionary, Animal Lover, Philanthropist Jan Hobbs

Since animals have played such an important part of my life, I knew I wanted to do something to help them.”

Visionary philanthropist Jan Hobbs has always loved animals and knows firsthand the power of the human-animal bond. Dedicated to improving the lives of animals, she is partnering with the school to help pets receive the highest level of care through the school’s new Southern California veterinary medical center location.

Hobbs contributed a transformative gift to name the Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center of Southern California. The center, which is slated to open in fall 2025, enhances UC Davis’ veterinary presence in Southern California, consolidating and expanding its presence in San Diego.

We are inspired by Jan’s devotion for animals and deeply grateful to her for her generosity,” Dr. Mark Stetter, the dean of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine said. “This is the beginning of a new era of care for UC Davis in Southern California—making a big difference for animals and the families who love them. Jan’s compassion for animals is extraordinary.”

“Since animals have played such an important part of my life, I knew I wanted to do something to help them,” Hobbs said. “I’m so inspired by the #1 ranked UC Davis Veterinary Medicine and the great work they are doing around the world. It is important to me to give back to my community in a way that that will benefit cherished pets like Hamilton and Jitterbug for many years to come.”
