Helping Pets and Their Owners: Work That Matters
Meet Maggie Wilson, one of the clinic's Client Services Representatives
Margaret Wilson (Maggie) has worked with the UC Veterinary Medical Center, San Diego for almost nine years, and loves that every day is a little different. As one of the clinic’s Client Services Representatives, she enjoys meeting pets and their owners and helping them navigate questions with the care team. “Visiting the clinic can be stressful for the pets and their owners, too. I enjoy working with them to make sure their experience is as smooth as possible.”
Maggie is the coordinator for the Client Services Representatives (CSRs), ensuring that the team maintains clear communication between clients, clinicians, and staff. She also oversees accurate billing and invoicing entries in the system.
Maggie got her start in veterinary health at the age of 16 – she knew she wanted to work with animals and volunteered at a local veterinary center for many years. While attending UC San Diego, she came upon a job posting for the UC Davis clinic, and was thrilled to receive the offer to work there.
She is also a self-described "crazy cat lady." Having grown up with what she calls a "crazy cat father," she now shares her home with one senior cat named Ferdinand.
Now, almost ten years later, Maggie’s fondness for the clinic’s work, and her anticipation of the new Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center’s opening, are what keep her engaged in her work. “I’ve worked in the veterinary field for a long time, and in my opinion, we have the best clinicians. Every patient has the best care, and the clinicians and our team are always trying to do the best that we can for each of our patients and their owners.”
When the UC Davis Hobbs Veterinary Center opens, Maggie looks forward to the impact it will have on regional veterinary care. “I’m so excited to see how more space will help us serve even more animals,” she said. “The lobby/welcome area will make a big difference, right when pets and their owners enter the building. And to have another ER in the region will be so helpful.”
Philanthropy has made a difference in the current clinic’s work, and Maggie knows it will continue to do so.
We owe our donors everything,” Maggie said. “I get to see every day what their donations of equipment, or to funds in support of pets, can do. We are so grateful.”
