Construction on New Center Begins

The renovations establish a veterinary center that uphold the high standards of care.

Quick Summary

  • The 23,000 square foot building will become the center’s new home in 2026.

Construction on the new Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center Southern California building has begun! Thanks to a leadership gift by philanthropist Janice K. Hobbs, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine purchased a building located on Shoreham Place in the University City area of San Diego. The 23,000 square foot building will become the center’s new home in 2026. Global architecture firm Safdie Rabines and premier builder Swinerton are leading the project, with UC Davis Design and ConstructionManagement overseeing.

The renovations establish a veterinary center that uphold the high standards of care that is associated with the school (recently ranked number one veterinary school in the nation by US News and World Report for the 11thyear in a row).

Current construction involves demolition of the building’s interior and planning utilities capacity supporting the advanced imaging and medical equipment that will be installed in the new center.

The school and clinic in San Diego are grateful to the countless partners in philanthropy who have made this new center of veterinary care possible. There are still opportunities to support this center, ensuring that access to the most innovative care and state-of-the-art equipment is available for animals across the Southern California region, and beyond.
