Progress on the New Center
An architect and builder have been selected, with construction to begin soon.
Thanks to the visionary philanthropy of Janice K. Hobbs, the Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center Southern California will consolidate and expand UC Davis’ veterinary presence in Southern California. With Hobbs’ generous contribution. the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine was able to purchase 5040 Shoreham Place in San Diego. Following renovation, the 23,000-square-foot facility will become the center’s new home.
We are excited to report that renovation will begin soon, following a competitive design/build bidding process. After careful review, global architecture firm Safdie Rabines and premier builder Swinerton were selected to lead the project. UC Davis Design and Construction Management will oversee its progress.
- Safdie Rabines has designed many award-winning structures and buildings, including visible projects in the San Diego/Southern California area, such as the West Mission Bay Bridge, the expansion of KPBSin San Diego, and the Jeannie Lecture Hall at UC San Diego.
- Swinerton, with a proven track record in higher education and healthcare construction, recently completed UC Davis Health’s Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion.
With construction set to begin soon, the center is anticipated to open in 2026. Stay tuned for more exciting updates as we bring this vision to life!
